CHI OMEGAS GIVING BACK!

Chi Omegas care deeply about the communities they live in.  Here at the Omicron Mu Chapter of Chi Omega, we wholeheartedly strive to be a positive force in the San Luis Obispo community through service and philanthropic work.

Our philanthropy is the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a non-profit organization which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.  In parternship with Make-A-Wish Tri-Counties, we have granted over 42 wishes since the founding of our chapter in 2008.  Many Chi Omegas have very personal ties to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the families they serve.  Through celebrating the children at their wish parties and hearing the stories their families share, we see the power a wish has to create joyful, impactful, and lasting memories.

As one of our six purposes, community service allows us to address the needs of our neighbors in San Luis Obispo.  We work in collaboration with other members of Greek life, the Cal Poly community, and our fellow sisters to enact our support for local organizations.  We pour our hearts into volunteer opportunities such as cheering on our buddies at the Special Olympics, making dog toys for the Woods Humane Society, and serving at our local Senior Center.  When you find yourself in need, you will always find a Chi Omega ready to lend a helping hand and a smile.

philanthropy events

Each year our chapter holds a number of philanthropy events including our annual Chi O Casino night— a fun-filled mock casino night is one of the campus’ most fun nights of the year where hundreds of students and families come together to help us grant another wish for one of the Tri-County Wish Kids! This past year we began the tradition of accompanying the actual casino event with a “Wish Room” where the stories were posted of all the children Chi Omega has granted wishes for. Their stories, while some heartbreaking, keep our philanthropic spirits high.

Our other events include: Sand Slam, a fraternity volleyball tournament; Make-A-Wish Benefit Concert; and Wings for Wishes, a chicken wing eating competition for the Greek community! All of these events, sprawling throughout the year, give us Chi Omega’s a true purpose and an incredible opportunity to give back to the San Luis Obispo community.

Chi Omega has granted over 42 wishes so far and we are stopping no time soon. Ask any Chi Omega or contact this page for more information to learn more about our philanthropy!
